Homemaking Hacks: Playing Catch Up After a Busy Weekend
Do you ever have those weekends that fly by in a blur—and suddenly it’s Sunday night, your head hits the pillow, and the dread starts to sink in? Same here. That was me this weekend. The dishes were piled high, the laundry was untouched, the fridge was nearly empty, crumbs seemed to be everywhere… and Monday was looming.
Before falling asleep, I vented to my husband about how overwhelmed I felt—listing off everything that needed to get done and getting more exasperated by the minute. In his gentle and steady way, he reminded me that my anxiety wasn’t helping. He quoted Colossians 3:15 to me:
“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”
Praise God for a righteous husband who speaks truth when I need it most.
He was right. I didn’t have to be ruled by the mess and chaos. So we prayed together and went to bed.
Monday morning came, and despite a late start, I got to work. I tidied the house, cleaned, finished six loads of laundry, deep cleaned our mattress, and did more snack and meal prepping than I thought possible. But was that by my own strength? Absolutely not. It was the grace of God—meeting me in my weakness and giving me what I needed for that day.
When I submitted that to-do list to the Lord and chose to view those tasks as acts of worship—stewarding the home and the belongings He’s blessed us with—everything shifted. The Holy Spirit went before me in the dishes, the laundry, and even the crumbs on the floor.
I hope this encourages you, friend. Does everything always get done? No. And does that diminish our worth as homemakers or wives? Absolutely not.
We can rest in the truth that our worth is not in our productivity, but in Christ alone. Because He calls us His children, that’s enough. Our to-do lists do not define us—He does.
