Hosted at my home, this intimate class will guide you through sourdough starter basics and creating first loaf. We will cover how to maintain your sourdough starter, how to bake a basic sourdough boule, why the type of flour you use is important, and other beginner information. You will leave the class with:
- 100 grams of organic sourdough starter ($15 value)
- A mixed loaf of bread ready to ferment on your counter ($10 value)
- Instructions for maintaining the starter
- My personal traditional sourdough loaf recipe
- Knowledge to empower you to become a sourdough baker!
You will need to bring the following items. They are essential not only for the class, but investments you will need if you are going to bake sourdough regularly.
- Medium/large mixing bowl
- A rubber spatula/handheld mixing utensil
- A kitchen scale
- Apron/kitchen towel
You'll be leaving the class with a loaf to bake in your own oven at home so be sure you are ready to do so! I recommend baking in a Dutch oven - you can find one rather inexpensively on Amazon. There are other ways you can bake sourdough, but the Dutch oven method I have found is the most beginner friendly, fool proof method.
Class will start promptly at 9am and run until 12pm. Sourdough snacks will be provided. The class is capped at 6 people, so you will be provided with hands on guidance & the opportunity to answer any questions you may have!
